Oedipus Rex

Sophocles is one of the greatest tragedy playwrights of all time. His tragedies are akin to that of Shakespeare, a name every English-speaking student known well. However, Sophocles lived a comfortable, happy life. He began his career at twenty-eight when he defeated a fellow playwright (Aeschylus) in a dramatic competition, and continued to win first prizes twenty-four times over a period of sixty years, which is the highest number of all Greek playwright winnings. While he wrote one hundred and twenty three (123) plays in life, only seven are still in existence.
